Durham restaurateur’s Rise Biscuit and Donuts set to start franchising

A national doughnut tour may seem like a dream for some, but for Durham restaurateur Tom Ferguson, it was integral to starting his business.

Ferguson owns Rise Biscuits and Donuts, a breakfast and lunch joint that opened in 2012. The restaurant is Ferguson’s third venture and launched its franchise brand this summer.

Ferguson’s passion for breakfast stems from throwing parties as a teenager and cooking the morning meal for friends who spent the night at his house. He was an omelet chef and made biscuits at his first cooking gig at a Marriott hotel in Texas, his native state.
