Cyclospora Outbreak in Texas Sickens 54 People

For the third summer in a row, Texas is dealing with an outbreak of Cyclospora. At least 54 Texans have been hit with Cyclospora infections as health authorities work to determine the cause, according to the Associated Press.

No hospitalizations or deaths have been reported.

The outbreak seems to be centered on Travis County, where Austin is located and where at least 23 county residents have fallen ill.

Cyclospora is a single-celled parasite that causes symptoms such as watery diarrhea, abdominal cramping, and nausea. It is most commonly spread through food and water contaminated by feces containing the parasite.
