5 People Sickened with E. Coli in Vermont

The Vermont Department of Health is investigating a cluster of Shiga toxin-producing E. coli (STEC) infections in Vermont residents.

As of September 22, five laboratory-confirmed STEC infections and one probable case have been identified. All of these cases are associated with a common exposure.

Valley News reports that Worthy Burger in South Royalton voluntarily closed for several days and switched food vendors after being contacted by the health department, but officials haven’t said whether any diners contracted E. coli at the restaurant or what the source of the contamination might be.
